Would-be photographers are told, \u201cTake lots of pictures.\u201d Art students are sent off to paint images of bowls of fruit or landscapes that have been done by untold numbers of people before them. Writer\u2019s have to be able to illustrate with words.<\/p>\n

But how to begin?<\/p>\n

Here is a short piece sent to me personally by N. Roman and reprinted with permission:<\/p>\n

I Write Daily<\/p>\n

i write daily
\nsometimes the words on the page
\nmarch to the same battle drum
\nfalling in, dress right dress
\ncadence clear
\nparade rest.<\/p>\n

i write daily
\nsometimes the words fall disarrayed
\nand lay on top of one another
\nhiding between the nouns
\ntimid action words
\nnot wishing to engage.<\/p>\n

i write daily
\nsometimes raging demons fall to stand
\ndo bloody battle with emotional foes
\nspattering the page with remains
\nof vanquished fears
\nupon the white lineless battlefield.<\/p>\n

i write daily
\nsometimes angels land on imagined lovers
\nkisses whisp through fields
\nof hyacinth and lily
\nlay golden in the reeds of passion
\nsigh forever with content resign.<\/p>\n

i write daily
\nand sometimes the words fall invisibly
\nthe virginal page lays unsoiled
\nwhile tempests rattle in my soul
\nmy pen dies silently
\ninside my trembling palm.<\/p>\n
