We connected in under a minute, have had a 10 or so year separation when our life paths diverged, and he\u2019s always been friends with ConiAnn at me. He has also taught us things which have helped in our evolution\u00a0\u2013 some of which I get pass on to you.<\/p>\n I arrived at the hotel somewhere around 7:00 p.m. As soon as I had my room key in hand, I headed back out to the car and over to Vern’s. He has a knack for finding locally-owned restaurants with great menus. Tonight we were eating Mexican.<\/p>\n The waiter gave us a booth in the large hall where there were virtually no other customers. I’d asked Vern for a recap on a major natural disaster that he had been called out to help with several years ago. One of Vern’s jobs occasionally takes him to disaster sites. The insights he offers can help me in my own areas of work.\u00a0How bad did really get and what were the lessons learned?. When government has a major failure, not everything makes it into the mainstream news.<\/p>\n He related how new management keeps coming in. That means new ideas and establishing new procedures. With an ongoing 10-plus year war, layers of bureaucracy, additional steps required for approval as newly-created departments grab turf, \u00a0it has slowed down\u00a0the process and caused the onsite responders to reinstate older “creative alternate” procedures.<\/p>\n A few of the problems he explained were, to my mind, reminiscent of those encountered during Operation Market Garden of World War II. Poor preparation then and now in our recent disaster responses, had led to critical communications failures. Not to worry, new plans are in place \u2013 we’ll test them out during the next disaster.\u2026 I feel better already.<\/p>\n Looking up, I noticed there was no movement in the restaurant so I got up to pay our bill and Vern took care of the tip. The\u00a0 entrance was dark. It was now 10 o’clock at night and the restaurant had closed several minutes ago. We weren’t hurried, in fact we probably could’ve stayed longer, but my awareness showed the manager desired a chance to go home.<\/p>\n For the last topic we shifted to the current election. Vern and I don’t normally talk a lot about politics, but since this time around our opinions are more in agreement, it was safe to sound each other out. After a couple minutes I noticed my body language, including my facial expression and eye movements, had changed. In fact the things I was talking about changed and I said, \u201cI just realized I’m channeling Andrea!\u201d<\/p>\n He performed a slight shift in consciousness in order to see this, then smiling said, “Huh…, cool,” .<\/p>\n Now it would’ve been<\/strong> cool had Andrea actually written and said she was thinking about politics and me up in Kentucky at the same time I was talking to Vern. She did not, so I remain the skeptical psychic.<\/p>\n The fact that people have psychic connections doesn’t mean that we’re always aware of everything the other person is thinking or feeling. Or, perhaps it’s just natural to be aware of knowing and it doesn’t require comment.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n –<\/strong> Jeffrey A. When our conversation did get to the problems of the world at large, I started with a recap of what I felt were\u00a0 the biggest blunders of the last hundred years.
